Club Information and Committee

The Devizes Running Club has a dedicated committee of unpaid volunteers.  There are three principle officer posts, and a number of others elected at the Annual General Meeting in the autumn.  The committee membership is a great mix, representing a whole range of running experience and fitness.

We meet at 6:30pm on Tuesdays for a social run and Thursday for interval training. Feel free to come and try us for a couple of sessions.

If you want to run with us for more than four sessions, we ask you to join the club please.

Why join Devizes Running Club?

Friendship, support, training, social events, member privileges, discounted race entry, motivation ... the list goes on!

Training should be fun!

The vast majority of our members see themselves as recreational runners, even if they do enter races.  With the encouragement and buddying available through running as part of a club, the enthusiasm rubs off and many decide to go for a 5k, 10k or even a marathon.

There’s definitely no pressure though – the regular training nights are a great motivator and many simply enjoy having company whilst running.  And in the dark evenings, it is a practical and safer option to run as part of a group in street-lit Devizes.

The club welcomes all levels of runner, though it would be fair to say that to enjoy (rather than endure!) the training nights, it’s preferable to be able to run (however slowly) for 30 minutes.

Having said this, total beginners or those returning to running after a long interval are very welcome to join us on a Tuesday night when there is a guided run/walk by one of our experienced members. Click here for more info re beginners.

In addition to our regular training nights there is often an additional longer session at a weekend arranged amongst members who might be training for an event – and of course it’s easier to train with a buddy than on our own.

Membership of the club automatically offers affiliation to England Athletics, which in turn entitles us to discounted race entry fees.

Social events are arranged throughout the year, from a pub gathering to a dinner/disco at Christmas

Affiliation -- Devizes Running Club is affiliated to Wiltshire and South of England Athletics Association. Members therefore do not have to pay the non affiliated entry fee levy to enter races organised under the rules of UK Athletics, and are covered by their insurance = cheaper race entries ....  Affiliation fees support the development of the sport locally and nationally.

Association -- We are a friendly bunch, mostly normal, and although most of us would like to be fitter and faster (and younger) there is no pressure. We organise our training runs so that nobody is left behind. We get together for social events and races.  YOU DON'T NEED TO BE FIT TO JOIN US.  WE CATER FOR ALL LEVELS OF FITNESS.

Adhesion -- The hardest part of running for fitness is sticking to a training programme. Belonging to a running club might just give you the motivation you need to achieve your aims. If you live in or near Devizes then you will find a warm welcome at our training sessions where you can meet us and find out more about membership
